Christmas in the 108

I went up to visit my Aunt Shell and Uncle John in 108 Mile Ranch for Christmas and it was a holiday filled with animals. Three horses, two dogs, two cats and a kitten. Oh ya, and a 26-pound turkey, which was outstanding. (And the leftovers continue to be outstanding.)

I was a little worried about the drive up given that I had to drive Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon, but it wasn't too bad really. Bare roads the whole way. I did have a little adventure above Spences Bridge where the Bighorn Sheep traffic is near constant. I stopped to take a few photos of these amazing looking animals as they grazed on one shoulder, crossed the highway and climbed up a near vertical slope, and continued grazing on higher slopes.

Here are some of them on the river side of the road. There were at least 20 in total.

Here they are boldly crossing the highway in front of traffic.

And here the biggest male leads the way up the slope. Pretty cool eh?

Christmas in the 108 was good. Here are a few photos of John and Shelly and the horses as well as the tree, the kitten, and even the pudding.

Here the horses enjoy breakfast in the sun.

Here Shelly feeds the horses on Christmas Day.

And the requisite cute kitten shots:

Of course the most important moment at Christmas is lighting the plum pudding. Eating plum pudding on the other hand . . .

Happy New Year everyone. Don't make any resolutions you can't keep.

Pet rock maybe?

Well Joanne and I decided Jake wasn't going to work out so we didn't adopt. Just too much work that will mostly fall on me, and driving home from work every day for lunch so the big guy could have a pee just seemed like too much.

But I did find out that he has been adopted by a family with a big yard and a stay-at-home mom, so that will be much better for him.

We can step out our door and not far from our place can see bald eagles, great blue herons, hawks, salmon and even an emu and some neighbourhood bunnies.

These animals will have to be good enough for now.

Jake, meet the peeps. Peeps, meet Jake

Okay, this is Jake and we met him last night in North Vancouver (fun drive on a work night from Chilliwack) at the house of the woman who is fostering the dog.

He is really sweet, really naive in a way where he almost doesn't seem to even know he is a dog. I guess he was abused and/or neglected previously so even if Rottweilers didn't act as puppies longer than other dogs, Jake is super-puppyriffic.

We aren't sure we'll be adopting him although Joanne and I want to very much. We have some love to give, I guess (I want a baby, but it doesn't make sense just yet). We also have some issues with the fact that we are at work all day so I would have to start coming home for lunch to let him out . . . or create some other situation for him during the day. Blah, blah, blah. Much to decide.

But here he is anyway:

Bridal Veil Falls

Joanne and I went for a walk at Bridal Veil Falls on December 3 before the snow from our freak snowstorm all melted.

Here are a few snapshots from that day.

merry, merry . . .

A family out at a u-cut Christmas tree farm here in Chilliwack get a big one.

This is really a test. First time posting a blog here.

What's it gonna look like . . . and why am I doing this? Who knows.
